WHO WAS HAI LEVITON...?

​

Home Automation Inc. (HAI) was a pioneering force in the smart home industry, best known for its robust, hardwired hybrid security and automation control panels. Founded in 1985, HAI practically launched the integrated home automation category with its flagship Omni and Lumina controller lines, which combined professional-grade security, HVAC climate control, lighting automation, and multi-room audio into a single unified system.

Current Status: Discontinued Legacy Systems:

​

  • The Leviton Acquisition: Leviton purchased HAI in 2012.

  • End of Life: Leviton officially phased out and discontinued the legacy HAI / Leviton Security & Automation line.

  • The Challenge Today: While hundreds of thousands of these bulletproof systems are still running in homes worldwide, homeowners face challenges finding replacement parts, updating software, or finding technicians trained in HAI’s proprietary PC Access programming software

Modern Solutions for HAI System Owners:

​

Because the hardware is incredibly reliable but the software interfaces are legacy, we are happy to state that we can typically offer one of three paths for existing HAI owners:

  • Keep and Modernize (Software Bridge): You can keep your existing Omni board intact and breathe new life into it using third-party apps like Myro:Home (which adds modern iOS, Apple Watch, and Siri functionality)

  • Partial Upgrades: If a specific part breaks—like a thermostat—you can often disconnect the 4-wire proprietary data harness and reuse the standard HVAC field wires to install a modern smart thermostat like a Nest or Ecobee

  • Full Replacement: If the central board or keypad fails, users typically migrate to modern pro-grade automation platforms (such as Elk M1, Control4, or Crestron) or bridge the hardwired security sensors into a new controller

  • We offer integration specials for users that transition to the ELK M1 or E27 platforms as they are the closest to the HAI platform similarities

The Elk M1 is a commercial-grade, hybrid security and home automation system that supports up to 208 zones and eight independent partitions. It features smart integration capabilities, triple-path monitoring, and voice alerts with a 500-word vocabulary.

The ELK E27 Alarm Engine is a modern, mid-tier, IP and cloud-centric hybrid security platform from ELK Products. It is designed to offer a streamlined, cloud-connected alternative to the premium M1 Gold system.

  • Hybrid Architecture: Supports a blend of hardwired and wireless safety/intrusion sensors

  • Named for On-Board Capacity: Derived its name from featuring 16 on-board zones and 11 on-board outputs (totaling 27) out of the box

  • Mid-Tier Scalability: Expandable up to 128 total zones/inputs and up to 32 relay outputs

  • Multi-Area Partitioning: Manages up to 8 independent security areas supporting up to 199 distinct users

  • Native Cloud & App Connectivity: Built with an on-board Ethernet port and optional Wi-Fi support for instant pairing with the ElkConnect App and Portal

  • Advanced Logic Engine: Utilizes enhanced automation programming supporting AND, OR, and ELSE conditional logic

  • Z-Wave Integration: Wirelessly controls up to 64 smart lights, 8 door locks, 4 thermostats, and 4 garage door controllers via an optional Z-Wave adapter

  • Modern Power Supply: Uses a compact 2.5-amp DC power pack with a master on/off switch, eliminating the need for bulky AC transformers
